Post PAiA 9700K MIDI2CV8, 2720 4700 series modulars, FatMan
Hello Jeff.

Thank you for writing. There's a catch to using the 9700K MIDI2CV8 with the older PAiA modules: The 2720 and 4700 series modules need the exponential pitch cv that is available when the 9700VHZ option is in place on the 9700K; however, this option item is not presently available in our selection of products. If you had already decided this was the way you wanted to go, the option is detailed in the manual text and diagrams and consists of an add-on circuit with an IC, some transistors, resistors, and trims, and it would not be too difficult to make it using perf-board or a DIP-IC experimenters board, point-to-point wired and integrated to the 9700K. It can be powered by external, positive and negative (dual-polarity) dc supplies, ranging from 12 to 15 volts, or with a 12vac (300mA or more) transformer. The +and- 9v and 18v dc supplies in the older PAiA modulars don't match this, so you'd be best just using a separate transformer when retrofitting a MIDI2CV8.

Or, FatMan's MIDI to CV and trigger conversion is suited for operating the older PAiA modulars, plus you'd have a monophonic synthesizer voice to mix or process. The Pitch CV is the needed exponential (v/hz) type for the linear-response 2720-2A and 4720 VCOs: Velocity CV and Gate-trigger are the other two outputs (rca type sockets) available.

Thanks again. Sincerely, Scott Lee
