I'm looking for a copy of the Gnome assembly guide. Not the "Using the Gnome" manual or the How-to guide available on the PAiA site, but the actual step by step assembly guide.

But, after searching the document/manual section, i could not find it.

i bought my manuals off ebay after i bought my broken Gnome.

I did buy the $50 one on eBay, but unfortunately it was likely never functional. All soldering and wiring were completed and look ok, but the unit was not assembled. So I'll have to check each step of the construction to verify accuracy before moving on to replacing components to figure out why it doesn't work. Sadly the internal lube in the pots dried out, so they may all have to be replaced. But before all that, a cursory test with a multimeter suggests that I'll have to replace all the slide switches as well. Does anyone know offhand a Mouser (or other supplier) part number for slide switches of the same size? I can measure, but don't want to reinvent the wheel here.

And another question: the 2N5129 transistors in the TO-92 package size were all installed the opposite way from what the PCB silkscreen indicates (i.e., the flat side facing the other way). The assembly instructions don't prescribe this, so I'm wondering if this transistor has an unusual pinout (can't tell from glancing at its datasheet)? In reviewing photos of other Gnome guts online, it appears that this reverse orientation was followed by other builders, so I'm assuming it was intentional and not a mistake. Just trying to rule everything out.

On page 3 of the Gnome assembly manual, it shows 2N5129 and 2N5139 with a "triangle" pin arrangement. The TO92 version is "inline", with the BASE in the middle.

In any case, use a ohm meter to determine the N-P-N arangement of the pins. then, put them on the pcb with the correct alignment for the schematic. I would recommend removing and testing each tranny.

U know, U might be able to squirt some WD40 into the backs of those pots.
Let it set for a bit, then try to carefully twist the shaft to free it gently. what have U got to loose? Try spraying one. Pots are about 95cents from mouser, but U will have to find splined shafts if U want to use the original knobs. I'd go for the WD40 first.

Thanks! I may try to lube the pots, but I'm more worried about the switches. Pretty sure I need to figure out replacements for those before anything else happens.

don't see how the switches could be "frozen"(?) maybe try WD40 in one of the switcthes(from the top/side). Let set for a few hours. Then use thumb presssure to push to other side. If push comes to shove, U could probably disassemble a switch and see what's hanging it up. these DPDT switches are large, generic and cheap. I'd unsolder the switch wires and pot wires at the pcb leaving the wires hanging on the sw/pot. have fun gnomin'!!

The switches aren't frozen, but they don't work, maybe due to internal corrosion? I'd rather replace them with modern ones than take time disassembling them, I'll just have to figure out the correct size.
