Gave up on the midivox as a midi to cv converter since it only output for volts per octave. Got a midi implant and am trying to get it going, any experience out there to help out?

Yes, the Linear-Response VCOs in 2720 and 4700 series modulars need exponential or v/hz pitch control voltage to produce the proper pitches for notes pressed on the keyboard.

The MIDImplant device you mention looks to have this capability, and to be well thought out!

But, you should get a FatMan! Then you'll have the MIDI to Control Voltage (pitch and velocity) and triggering compatible with your modular pieces.

FatMan's audio can be further processed through the modules in a series sort of patch or just run the control signals over to the modules and use the parallel with their audios mixed, or do a bit of each.

Admittedly, I have considered a Fatman for the sheer convenience factor, but the engineer in me wants to really get the 2720 up because it can be done.

I'm double checking my wiring today and then trying to tune again. I was able to get a single octave in perfectly with my sequencer last night but no more than that...

Although , I did so with a mod to the VCO, which extended the tuning pots of it to a panel. I really need to figure out the software of the midi implant itself and do tuning there instead.

Well wiring was the problem but since I got past that last week I really have enjoyed being able to run midi into the 2700. Tuning to other synths was a little harder than I thought it would be as I think I need to consider the limits of the 2700 oscillators themselves but it can and was done. Midi implant is a God send and I recommend it to everyone.

Well I finally blew up my midi implant.

I'm thinking of a work around. I still have a midi to cv converter kit, the midivox, but it doesn't put out exponential pitch control voltage, it's linear. If I ran it through the Paia 9756K might it track pitch correctly? I've come across some web claims which state drift depends on temp.

Has anyone attempted this?

How did that happen? Just curious because I was thinking about using midi implants for my Paia VCOs and some of my other synths (Korg 770, Yamaha CS-15, ...)

No fault of the midi implant. I had some grounding issues.

The form factor of the midi implant is so tiny, it could fit anywhere. I still recommend it, but it is proprietary so don't expect schems or anything.

One more thing to note is that it only drives 2 parameters, so like cv and velocity. But this is all accessibly documented.
