PAiA 6770 Master Synchronizer Assembly and Users Manual with Schematics

Thank you for buying the PAiA 6770 Master Synchronizer kit. We realize that you are anxious to get on with the assembly, but before you start, please take the time to read the hints and suggestions that follow.

First of all, this is not a typical PAiA Assembly Instruction Manual. It is assumed that anyone assembling this particular kit is familiar with assembly and soldering techniques. You'll notice that there are none of the usual step-by-step instructions for installing components on the circuit board or doing point to point wiring, so if you are unsure about your ability to complete the assembly successfully, DO NOT BEGIN ASSEMBLY. Instead, see about getting an experienced friend or paying a pro to assemble the kit for you. Meanwhile keep the packaged kit together and intact in case you decide to return it.

The first few pages of this manual comprise a reprint of Craig Anderton's article on SYNTHESIS & SYNCHRONIZATION from Keyboard magazine, January/February 1983. If you have not read this article, it will be absolutely necessary to do so. If you are already familiar with the article it can't hurt to go over it again.


Manual contents:

The PAiA 6770 Master Synchronizer manual (Instruction Manual, User Manual, Assembly Instructions) contains details for constructing a 19" rack format device for deriving musically timed events (triggering and metronome) from a click track or sync clock, from a parts kit using only basic electronics assembly tools and supplies. Included in the manual are Schematics, Illustrations and Diagrams, a Parts List (List of Parts, BOM, Bill of Materials), views of the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) and its Printed Circuit Traces (Printed Circuit Layout) overlaid with the Parts Placement Designators (Silk-screened parts designations), and set-up and use (operating) instructions.

The 6770 circuitry is comprised of Integrated Circuits, Transistors, Diodes, Capacitors, and Resistors. It requires power from an external dual-polarity 15 volt power supply. The input and output connections for Click Tracks To and From Tape, a Voltage-controlled Clock CV Input, Output Status signals for Run and Stop conditions, a Clock output, and a combination of Gate-like, Square-wave (1/2 event duration) and Pulse (start of event) triggering are via 1/4" phone jacks (sockets). Potentiometers and Slide Switches provide control over various operational features including Sensitivity (Input Clock/Click), Clock Out (Output Level), Initial Tempo, Clock Phase, 24/16 Pulses Per Quarter Note (ppqn), Chain/Triplet, +5/+10 Volt Outputs, Stop/Go, External/Internal (Clocking), and Run/Reset. LEDs provide indication of Run, Rest, Quarter Note, and Whole Note status. Also included are, examples of interfacing with commercial equipment and using the module to create rhythmically timed control voltages (vibrato generator, decay generator, attack/decay generator, and a four-step sequencer).
