When rehabbing some PAIA modules, I found a quick and easy way to clean some of the dirt buildup in old tip jacks is to give them a swim in Tarn-X tarnish remover. The liquid gets inside of the jack and attacks much of the crud and doesn't seem to affect the plastic part of the jack. It also works for old hardware such as audio panel jacks, mounting screws etc. Tarn-X is available in a 12 oz. bottle, which is a nice alternative to purchasing a gallon of something at the home store. Tarn-X is an acid so follow the usual precautions.
