only burns were right at the chips.

but no burned traces. p/s is fine after I replaced the 7805 #2.
no blown fuses
I'll check the diodes.

there was a hunk of metal loose in the case under the cpu board. I think if fell of the bottom of one of the keys.

I have removed the blown chips but now find that the board draws 1.4 amps on the first 5v line (whereas it should draw 700ma).

any suggestions on how to find which other chips are faulty.

still working on that dead korg, I see.
Give it a GOOD lookover with a large magnifying glass.
maybe there's still a solder blob from the explosions crossing some traces?
I use my index finger to feel the tops of the chips to see/feel if any are running
hotter that the others. Feel the traces also. Carefull, don't burn your pinky!!!!
Or, maybe one of those infared touchless temp probes?
if U itemize deductions, U could donate it to salvation army(?)
8-)
