powering 9710, 9720 & 9730 modules with 9771-15

Post by James »

Any issues or things I need to be aware of when powering 9710, 9720, 9730 modules with the 9771-15?

thanks!

Hello James.

They'll work, as is, connected to regulated fifteen volt supplies (9771-15), but it is best to bypass or use jumper wires in place of the power supply input coupling resistors, R1 and R2, on each of the 9710, 9720, and 9730 modules. Or, adapt the 9771-15 to have 16V outputs with the selection of the resistors which determine the adjustable voltage regulator output voltage (series connect a 330ohm with the existing 2.67K R5 and R7).

sorry, pretty new to building these kits. So don't install R1 & R2 and instead solder in wires at their respective connection points, correct?

I've already assembled and am using the 9771-15, so modifying it might be asking for trouble..took me a while to assemble that one..:)

Yes, wires in place of resistors R1 and R2 works to prevent any voltage drop by these resistors and ensures the 12 volt regulators have their needed three volts of headroom to best regulate the voltage.

been documenting my 9730 build and put in jumper wires using cut offs from a couple of the resistors.
